My Years in the ALTEN ICT Project Team
Jul 21,2023

In an era where the ICT industry is reshaping the production and R&D processes of physical sectors like automotive and industrial manufacturing, technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, edge computing, network security, VR/AR, and more have matured, offering practical possibilities for the development of autonomous driving and intelligent industries.

Engineers in this wave of technological advancements face increasing opportunities and challenges. As a knowledge-intensive industry, ICT demands cross-disciplinary, innovative talents. With the influx of multi-talented professionals into related fields, virtually every engineer is continuously absorbing new knowledge, learning new skills, and adopting new tools.

To gain insights into the real work environment of engineers in relevant fields, we conducted interviews with three active professionals working in software development, automated testing, and network security at ALTEN. Let's explore their experiences:

Jun Lin | ALTEN Software Development Engineer: "From Internet Giants to Building New Energy Vehicles"

Two and a half years ago, my colleague C and I made the leap from the technology giants to the automotive industry. Our current work mainly involves automotive software architecture design and development.

The automotive industry demands extremely high standards of software security, stability, and reliability, requiring expertise in various specialized knowledge and industry standards, such as CAN, LIN, embedded development, and AUTOSAR.

New energy is a continuous hot topic, and many of our colleagues from diverse backgrounds have joined the industry. I am fortunate to be part of a team with a supportive atmosphere and mutual assistance. ALTEN also arranged relevant AUTOSAR training for us, allowing us to accumulate valuable experience over the past two years.

Regarding future development, I am personally interested in the field of connected vehicles and am striving to become a connected vehicle engineer. Let us all encourage each other on this journey!

Anjo | ALTEN Automation Testing Engineer: "From Solo Struggles to Leading a Team Forward"

I have been working in the ALTEN ICT project team for over four years, primarily responsible for automated testing of mobile applications and team management.

Our daily work in automated testing involves developing testing scripts, designing test plans and cases, and tracking defect reports.

In my third year, the company needed a test team lead, and I was given the opportunity to step up. Now, we have a fixed team of 7-8 members. I share the lessons I"ve learned and provide regular training, setting aside fixed Q&A sessions every week, encouraging them to participate in industry seminars... I hope, like my mentor, to cultivate a team that excels in execution and can keep up with market trends while considering the bigger picture.

Tao Liu | ALTEN Network Security Engineer: "Will Programmers Be Replaced by AI in the Future?"

Around 2016, when the internet platforms were saturating and "network security" wasn"t as popular, I entered this field. As a senior network security engineer, I joined ALTEN in 2021, witnessing our team grow from two people to over a dozen.

Being a network security engineer, I find the work quite interesting, involving the flexible application of defense and offense. To enter, you must cross our fortress. The industry prospects are also promising, adapting to various sectors, be it platforms, cars, or airplanes. The learning directions are well-defined, thanks to the pioneers and experts in the field.

AI tools are gaining popularity. Some time ago, there was a discussion in the group about "whether front-end development is dead." This led to concerns about whether we, as network security professionals, might face unemployment due to AI advancements.

However, one of our colleagues had GPT write a program, which took half a minute to write but three full days to debug before the code could run. So, at least for now, we are safe. In my opinion, as long as our proficiency in using AI continues to progress at a pace equal to or greater than AI"s advancement, we will remain secure.

In conclusion, the evolving ICT industry presents numerous opportunities and challenges for engineers. From reshaping traditional industries to ensuring security in the age of AI, professionals like Jun Lin, Anjo, and Tao Liu exemplify the dedication and adaptability required to thrive in this dynamic field. As we move forward, the pursuit of knowledge, continuous skill development, and the application of innovative tools will be the pillars supporting success in the ever-changing landscape of ICT at ALTEN.
