ALTEN and Thales have signed a joint commitment to take action for a low-carbon future.
Thales, a global technology leader, is working with its strategic suppliers to achieve its CO2 emissions reduction targets for 2030, including a 50% reduction in operational processes and energy consumption, and a 15% reduction in supply chain emissions and product use by customers. Thales aims to achieve net zero operations-related CO2 emissions by 2040. ALTEN, as part of its Strategy for a Low-Carbon Future, develops responsible and sustainable solutions while supporting its customers in green innovation programs and decarbonization. ALTEN has submitted its emissions reduction targets to the Science-Based Targets initiative, aiming for a 59% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 55% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030, with the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Thales has already reviewed and approved action plans for over 150 suppliers and has received commitments from more than 40 suppliers to support its carbon reduction trajectory.
Smart Factory 4.0 program
ALTEN is introducing its Smart Factory 4.0 program at the Paris Air Show 2023. The program aims to make the aerospace industry greener, safer, and more efficient by leveraging digital technologies. ALTEN supports its customers in integrating technological advances throughout their value chain to develop new production models. The Smart Factory 4.0 program focuses on Industry 4.0 concepts such as IoT, digital twin, AI, augmented reality, robotics, industrial IT systems, and cybersecurity. The Mini-Plant 4.0, developed by ALTEN Labs, combines artificial intelligence with human control to analyze the impact of intelligence on industrial processes and efficiency. Machine learning algorithms enable real-time monitoring and processing of sensor data, supporting decision-making, optimizing performance, and simulating results.

Interview with Pierre Bonhomme
Pierre Bonhomme, Executive Director of ALTEN, discusses the challenges and prospects in the aerospace sector. While the industry faced a demand crisis during the Covid-19 pandemic, it is now experiencing a supply crisis due to the inability to serve the buoyant market. The sector aims to ramp up production, improve operational efficiency, deploy digital capabilities, ensure safety, and decarbonize to align with sustainability goals. Demand for air travel is gradually returning to pre-Covid levels, but the aircraft manufacturing sector is still struggling to restore its supply chain. The industry faces a talent shortage, particularly in areas such as data science, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. ALTEN plays a crucial role in supporting innovation efforts and attracting skilled engineers through its customized support and global presence. Despite immediate challenges, the aerospace sector must not overlook its decarbonization commitments. Innovation, research and development, and investment in areas like hydrogen-powered aircraft, electrification, and sustainable aviation fuels are essential to achieve net-zero emissions and mitigate the industry"s environmental impact.
